Black History Tour
Committed to the belief that Black History Month is every month, Old City Park offers a tour highlighting the struggles and triumphs of North Texas’s Black community for the city’s first 100 years. Participants will learn about the first woman “legally” hung in Texas and the 1860 fire when most of downtown Dallas burned and three men were persecuted for it without trial. Other stories include the integration of Dallas schools, Texas’s first Black surgeon and dentist who both had practices in our town, and Harriet Mason, the little girl given to the Gano family when she was 7 years old who, 80 years later, shared her story for the Federal Writers’ Project’s “Slave Narratives.”
